Content of the story:
1. In one forest there is a very big mango. When summer comes, the mango often gives a lot of fruits.
2. One day there are two birds flying from a far place: a kingfisher and a woodpecker. They are very close friends. They can see that the mango is giving fruits. The fruits are still green but they would turn to be very delicious fruits not too long later.
3. The two birds realize that the mango is an excellent place for building house to stay: “This tree is really big and having so many fruits. When the fruits are ripe, well can have a lot of food”.
4. The two friends decide to stay in the mango and they start to build their own house. The woodpecker collects many leaves and tree branches to build a very big and steady house. The kingfisher in contrast, tries to build many small houses in many branches of the mango.
5. The woodpecker asks his friend: “Why do you build so many houses? You need to build only one very steady house like me. Building too many houses will take a lot of effort and all the houses will not strong enough to against the wind.”
6. The kingfisher answers back: “There are so many fruits on this mango. I will build many houses on every branch of it to make a sign that this tree belongs to us. Then there would be no one come here to build house and we don’t have to share the fruits with the others”
7. The woodpecker says: “How can we eat all of the fruit? Let’s share them with the others. You should build just one very steady house instead, and spend your time looking for food, that’s much more better.” But the kingfisher doesn’t listen. He keeps on his work of building many houses.
8. The kingfisher spends most of his time guarding the tree. Each time there are birds that intend to stay on the tree, the kingfisher would asks them to go away: “Hey, this is my tree. Please go away, I have built all houses in this tree, and there is no place for the new one”
9. The birds fly away as they hear that. The mango tree is now the place for kingfisher and the woodpecker only. The kingfisher still spends most of his time guarding the tree and he spends only a little time to go to the river to catch fish for food.
10. The woodpecker after finishing his house, spends all of his time going out to find food and helps the other if he can. He often invites his friends to his house to have party.
11. One day the there is a very big storm. The wind blows so hard. All the houses of the kingfisher are blown away because they are so small and not well attached to the branches. But the wind can not blow the woodpecker’s house away because the house is attached to the branches like glue. The kingfisher has no place to live and he has to come to the woodpecker to ask for help.
12. The woodpecker opens the door and invites his friend to come in. The woodpecker invites his friend to have dinner and gives him warm coat also. The kingfisher says: “I was wrong to build so many small and simple house. Besides, I am so selfish to ask all the bird to go away. Now I got the result”
13. The woodpecker says: “It’s all right. I am happy that you now realize your mistake. Still you can fix it by sharing the mango tree with the others. Tomorrow I will asks my friends to help you build a new house”
14. The day later when the storm is over, the woodpecker and his friends come to help the kingfisher to rebuild his house. Many of the birds that the kingfisher has expelled away also come for help.
15. The kingfisher is very ashame for this. He says sorry to everyone for his action before and promises no to be selfish anymore: “I am so sorry that I asked you to go away. Now I realize that being selfish is bad and we all need friends. You are truly good to me.”
